No Iowa Driver's License or ID Number?
Register to vote by mail. Clicking this link will redirect you to the State of Iowa Official Voter Registration Form that must be printed, completed and mailed to your local county auditor’s office. Find your local county auditor’s mailing address here.
If you have become a naturalized citizen and were issued an Iowa driver’s license or nonoperator ID prior to your naturalization ceremony, you need to update your citizenship status with the DOT in order to utilize this online voter registration portal. Please make an appointment with the DOT as soon as possible. You are encouraged to utilize the paper registration form until your citizenship status with the DOT has been updated.
DO YOU HAVE YOUR GOLD STAR?
As of May 7, 2025, you will need a REAL ID gold star on your driver's license/ID or another TSA-approved identity document like a passport to fly within the U.S. or access certain federal facilities.
- To get your REAL ID gold star, you will need to visit us in person and bring additional documents with you.
- If you choose not to get a REAL ID, you will receive a driver's license or identification card that reads, "NOT FOR REAL ID ACT PURPOSES".

Has my new license/ID card been mailed?
Your new driver’s license or ID card will arrive in a plain white envelope within 30 days of being processed.
- Make sure to enter your first name in the first box and last name in the second box
- Enter your name exactly as it appears on your license or identification card (e.g. Matthew instead of Matt)
- Be sure to use the LAST 5 digits of your social security number (a common mistake is to use only the last 4)
